No new messages in MailMate as of Yesterday

Reported by Leo Franchi | February 12th, 2014 @ 03:50 PM

So I have a similar issue to the what is described here: http://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672-mailmate/tickets/611...

except my comment in that issue was marked as spam, so I worry that it'll never see the light of day. Here's what I've been experiencing:

After it working fine for many months, I've not received any new mail since yesterday. I can confirm that all my accounts are not greyed out---that is, they connect in some way. However, no inboxes are bold, so it looks like something is not right in the connection. I've tried synchronizing multiple times, turning condstore to NO, etc, but nothing has helped. The activity viewer looks like:

D10 UID FETCH 305:* (UID)
D19 UID FETCH 1:309 (UID FLAGS) (CHANGEDSINCE #####)

then after a few minutes, both lines change to:

R30 LOGOUT
R38 LOGOUT

and then I get nothing. Any tips? I'd like to avoid setting everything up again and syncing all those gigs of data if possible...

Sorry about the late response. I'm not notified when something is marked as spam and therefore I don't notice until I check manually :-(

Which server are you connecting to?

Update to the latest test version to make sure we are on the same page: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

In the Activity Viewer, you can click on each line and then you'll see a full log in the lower part of the window (although only if the window was open while logging). This should also reveal any errors reported.

Again, sorry about the late response.

    Thanks for the response!

I am connecting to 5 IMAP servers: 4 gmail (1 gapps for business), and 1 IMAP server hosted by mykolab.com. I've upgraded to the latest beta and the same problem persists. Here's some logs:

    MyKolab (lfranchi.com) account: http://paste.kde.org/pvl998mej
    GMail (KDE) account: http://paste.kde.org/pbxz55uhv
    GMail (work) account: http://paste.kde.org/pscvb1x8p

The activity viewer has each line greyed out---image attached. Any ideas? :)

It looks fine to me except for the fact of no connections in the IDLE state. Try right-clicking one of your INBOX'es. What does it say in the “Synchronization Schedule” menu? (It should be “Connected”.)

(I've written to lighthouse about the spam problem and I expect you'll be whitelisted soon.)

It does say "connected", but last synchronized is 3 days ago. Pic attached. (and the Inbox is not bold).

Ok, "yet another reboot" seems to have kicked MailMate into gear. Not sure what changed, but after a reboot it seems to have fetched new messages.

I'll update this ticket if it stops again.

That does look very strange. It seems like MailMate does not even try to put it in IDLE state.

What about your other mailboxes, have you put more in the Connected state? (Although it appears no mailboxes are in Connected state.)

You could try sending me these files (privately if you like):

    ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Sources.plist
    ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Messages/IMAP/.../State.plist

The latter just for one of the problematic accounts.

(By the way, your initial post indicates that CONDSTORE is not disabled -- because CHANGEDSINCE is used. But I don't think that is the problem.)

Not sure if you saw my last update---but now everything seems to be working again, so I can't send any more broken logs. I'll send you those files next time if this happens again! Thanks for the help regardless.

    Hi benny,

Actually I experience the same issue -- most probably since I upgraded the last beta (4469) yesterday.
I do not see within mailmate any new message (since yesterday 22h) whereas I received many in practice (checked via other clients).

The activity viewer does not reveal anything suspicious upon forced synchronization (Synchronizing mailbox-> D89 OK FETCH completed. ->
00:41:25 Completed action (1003). Observed read/write timeouts: 8/8) and finishes also in the LOGOUT state.

Any suggestion (forcing the indexing etc.) ?

Thanks for contacting me. I had forgotten about this ticket, but I
currently have a user with the same problem in ticket #894. Please
follow that and any observations you might have. I'll contact you if I
need you to do something for me. We are making progress, but I haven't
yet figured out what the problem is.

I do and it seems OK.

Nevertheless, in the mean time, I attempted a full reboot of my Mac (now only of Mailmate) and it proved to permit MM to work again as expected.
I confess I'm unable to provide you more information / feedback on what happened. So probably let's close it as a false alarm.

@Sebastian: Well, it didn't work before the reboot, so it wasn't a false alarm. Let me know if it happens again. I'll leave the ticket in “cantreproduce” as long as I'm not sure this issue has been fixed.
