Additional SMTP server
Reported by Peter Kakris | December 4th, 2013 @ 05:53 AM
Hi
Id like to be able to have an extra SMTP server I can choose if i want
I just started using an email tracking system before finding out
about MailMate, which has a different SMTP server for sending
tracked emails (such as opened time spend reading etc)
With apple mail I could choose Normal or tracking server (i pay per
email i send via tracking SMTP server)

- State changed from new to duplicate
I guess this is another example for the unfortunately quite old ticket #220. I'll keep it in mind for that and mark it as a duplicate.
Just curiosity: What exactly can this SMTP server track? Do you have a link?

I guess you could make dummy IMAP settings. That would obviously keep the account offline, but it would allow you to send messages using the account. You could then also make a rule for the Sent Messages mailbox of the account which moves the sent messages to the Sent Messages mailbox of the normal account. That would keep the dummy account empty.
I must admit I'm a bit skeptical about any techniques used by the service, but I'm also curios. I guess they insert images in HTML messages as one of their techniques, but they promise quite a bit more than that :-) In other words, if you send me an email using this service then I doubt that they can tell you anything but the fact that the message was delivered to my server and the physical location of my server (which is very far from my location).

See this mailing list post. It's not a complete solution, but it does allow changing the SMTP server in the Composer window.
