sorting by group of messages

Reported by Thibaud | January 23rd, 2014 @ 12:06 PM

A nice - at least for me - feature to clean my archive mailbox would be to have a sorting criteria that would display groups of e-mail. The groups of e-mails could be sorted by number of mails coming from the same sender, or the same domain for instance.

My use case is to delete old messages coming from different subscriptions I have made. To review all my messages one by one would not be feasible. I can search for domains or senders, but I have no real idea of the subscriptions that generated most of my e-mails. And I would like to begin by these latter because I would trash a lot of messages in a minimum of time. (Inside the group, the messages could be ordered by the classical order.)

The actual goal is to make appear the larger group and to begin by these groups. I don't know whether it is clear … let me know!

Ok, just realized grouping by sender can be done with submailboxes in smartboxes =)
But the submailboxes are ordered by alphabetical order. Would it be possible to change this order to order them by decreasing number of messages for instance? (or it could by size as well…)

There are frequent requests for a more relaxed threading mode than the one used by MailMate now. My own plan for doing this includes arbitrary threading conditions, e.g., one could thread by sender and you would get a grouping like the one you suggest. We'll see. I had not considered sorting by size of thread. This is a separate feature request.

I'll also note sorting by submailbox size as a request.

The group-threading is most likely to be implemented (and tracked by this ticket).

Just for the record, sorting by thread size has been possible for some time. Still no group-threading (although some progress has been made). The same goes for sorting by mailbox size.
