message changes font type in message lists

I received a message that changes the font type in the subject line which shows up in all sorts of places like the header view and message lists.
Is this intended? Is a message allowed to override user interface preferences like this?
(Cannot upload screenshot – upload quota reached –, but there is one available.)

I'm cleaning up old tickets and I seem to recall that I already replied to this one, but maybe it somehow got lost.
Anyways, the font type is not changed. It's simply some clever use of Unicode-characters.
One could of course disallow a subset of Unicode, but it would be very hard to determine when that was necessary. For example, one would need to be able to decide whether or not a given letter was used as a math symbol or not.
