No, there are no limitations on the size of a single mailbox. On disk, emails are saved as separate files. The bottleneck in MailMate is the total number of messages. Best to keep it below 100.000 although more can be handled depending on your hardware.

(MailMate is currently a 32 bit application which means that it can happen that MailMate runs out of address space.)

Would it be possible to impose such a limit?
I have literally terrabytes of mail and limited disc space on laptops.
It would be awesome to limit the mailbox size, storing mail headers only, reloading the mail over imap on demand.

@Jan-Paul: MailMate does not currently support it. It's what IMAP was designed for, but MailMate is designed to be fully offline. I do plan to have a “less offline” mode similar to what you suggest, but I have no time frame on that.

Are there any news on this? Mailmate's local storage is starting to take up significant space on my laptop, and it would be great to keep that under control.

In my case, it would ideally keep all headers and the most recently accessed message bodies (limited to e.g. 2GB, or accessed within the last month/year) locally, and keep the rest on the mail server for archival.

No, I'm afraid not. In your case though, you could perhaps move emails to date-based folders and then use “Edit Subscriptions” in the IMAP account editor to unsubscribe these folders.

Ideally, I would like to provide options to control which attachments to download/store. That would mean that everything else in all emails would still be available.
