Distortion mode does not work on new messages
Reported by David Morrison | June 23rd, 2014 @ 12:07 AM
I was creating a ticket for you and wanted to show what was happening in the message I was composing. Since it contained e-mails and web addresses, I thought I would turn on Distortion Mode. It didn't do anything in that window.
I also noticed that it did not distort the list of mailboxes down the left side, nor any images in the received message being displayed. It also left the details if any attachments undistorted.
It is definitely a useful feature for reporting bugs.

The text fields in the composer are, of course, editable. This makes it a bit tricky to distort text, for example, what should happen if editing distorted text?
Another reason: The distortion feature relies on a low-level formatting routine which most parts of the GUI use before displaying text. This does not happen for the composer and therefore this window would require special code. Also note that the message view is not distorted (again, because the content is not sent through this low-level formatting routine). This could fairly easily be fixed for non-HTML messages though.

It's not a problem. I just thought it would be useful if it did distort text being composed.

For the record: Text in the message view is now distorted for both plain text and HTML including attachment descriptions. (This is new for HTML/attachments and not released yet.) Mailbox names are also distorted.
(The composer remains non-distorted. This is non-trivial to change and it's unlikely to be implemented.)
