MailMate continuing to crash
Reported by Wes Carroll | June 1st, 2014 @ 01:58 AM
Sorry to report it, Benny, but though #794 (http://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672/tickets/794-reproduc...) is closed, and indeed that behavior is resolved, I have nonetheless had two crashes today since 794 was closed. The dump from the second such crash is attached. Like the first, the culprit seems to be com.apple.NSURLConnectionLoader (cf. Thread 16).
Though this is indeed Apple code, MailMate is the only app crashing, and the crash is tagged by the dump as MailMate's responsibility (lines 1 and 7 of the dump).
I do not yet know what cues precede this crash, but I will of course continue to keep an eye on it. So far, restarting MM is quick and relatively effortless, so this is only mildly disruptive.
Thanks for any information you are able to discern. I hope this helps.
This is Mac OS X 10.9.3; MailMate 3905; Gmail.

- State changed from new to cantreproduce
The lines you note don't really tell where the bug is, but it is of course likely that MailMate plays a role. The crash is apparently related to displaying messages — most likely messages with external content (server-side images). I'd like you to try two things:
- Update to the latest beta in the Software Update preferences
pane.
- Try to reproduce the issue. It might be related to particular messages.
If you cannot find a way to reproduce it reliably then try turning Image Blocking on in the Security preferences pane. This is just to see if it can stop this behavior.
If you haven't already done so then allow MailMate to send all crash reports in the General preferences pane. Then you don't need to attach them.
I'll mark this ticket “cantreproduce”, but you can still add comments and hopefully it can be changed to “reproduced”.

Suggested steps in process.
I have updated to Beta 4214 and will keep close watch.
Please note: updating has made me aware of behavior that I didn't understand was significant: before updating to 4214, all images were blocked no matter the setting of "Image Blocking" in the preferences pane. Now all messages correctly feature images. As part of my ongoing monitoring, I will toggle that preference from time to time and observe resulting behaviors.
Also, I will stop attaching crash dumps to bug reports, because crash reports are now being sent to you via general preferences per your instructions.
Thanks, Benny.

A few days in, I agree that it can't be reproduced. Excellent; thanks!
