mail to IDN in non-ASCII doesn't work

Reported by chaals | May 8th, 2014 @ 10:05 AM

Hi, I have an address @xn--d1acpjx3f.xn--p1ai (for humans that means @яндекс.рф - and a human should be able to guess my full email address from my profile name).

When I try to send email writing the address as ...@яндекс.рф it doesn't send - I have to use the ASCIIfied version to make it go through. (using mail.yandex.ru, or the Opera mail client, it works. I am assuming that the SMTP system expects to get the ASCIIfied version, and doesn't...)

cheers

    Yes, that is correct. Surprisingly I'm not getting a lot of reports about this, but I'm aware that it is a missing feature in MailMate.

    I'll track any progress on this issue in this ticket.

    +1, wrong display of some senders' names with German Umlauts, e.g.,

    From: Max =??Q?H=F6llerer?= <example@example.example>
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
        boundary="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=_xxxxxxxx"

    This is a multi-part message in MIME format

    --xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=_xxxxxxxx
    Content-Type: text/plain;
        format=flowed;
        charset="";
        reply-type=original
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit

    is shown as "Max =??Q?H=F6llerer?=". Other mail clients display the name correctly as "Max Höllerer".

    @Chris: This is a different issue and it's not a bug in MailMate. The header in your example does not have a charset for the encoded word. This is wrong, but I can see that the charset should probably be UTF8. I have no problem making that the default when the charset is missing. In other words, this should work in the next update of MailMate. Thanks for reporting this issue.

    To the other followers of this ticket: Is this still an issue? I seem to recall I fixed it, but maybe I never updated the ticket to reflect this.
