Closing search switches view to Inbox
Reported by trevor | April 24th, 2014 @ 12:53 AM
After searching in MailMate, which highlights All Messages, I may switch context to another app. Returning to MailMate I may want to browse Sent Messages and click on that, however the previous search is still active so no messages are shown. When closing search it then brings me back to Inbox.
In other words, current workflow:
(1) search for something
(2) do something unrelated
(3) click Sent Messages
(4) go "doh", click minus to close search
(5) get taken to Inbox
(6) click Sent Messages
I likely wouldn't take the time to file a bug, but I do this at least a couple times a day.

It seems like the search should be automatically deactivated when a new mailbox is clicked. Doing a search jumps you automatically to the pan-account Archive mailbox, which is usually what you want. And personally, when I think click back to Inbox, my intention is to view it unfiltered by the search.
But I suppose that the reason to keep search active after that is to enable subsequent one-click search narrowing to specific mailboxes, which would otherwise require creating a smart mailbox or sorting by source mailbox and scanning the results.
I can't help but feel that there is some sort of interface improvement that could be implemented.

- State changed from new to fixcommitted
After a discussion on the mailing list, I recently changed the behavior such that when explicitly selecting a mailbox after starting a search (step 3 in the list) then MailMate won't switch back to the original mailbox when ending the search (step 5). Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane to fetch a test release with this behavior.
