Crash when opening certain messages (S/MIME related?)
Reported by Rob McBroom | March 6th, 2014 @ 02:02 PM
I don’t have a preview pane, so messages aren’t opened until I double-click one. The attached message (and others from the same sender) are reliably crashing MailMate.
I’m also including an image of my security prefs, in case that’s necessary to reproduce.

I have another report about this sent by email which indicates that it might be a new problem. I cannot reproduce it, but that might be because I'm not on 10.9.2. Do you have MailMate on an older machine to test this theory on?
The crash happens in an Apple framework in a separate thread, but it is probably implicitly triggered by MailMate verifying an S/MIME signature. The question is whether or not MailMate is to blame.

For what it’s worth, turning off “verification and decryption” allows me to view the message, so it definitely has to do with that.
I don’t have access to 10.9.1, but I have a 10.8 VM for Quicksilver testing/support. I installed MailMate there and had it grab all my mail. It doesn’t crash on that message, but so many other things are different so I don’t know how conclusive that is.
I don’t know what happens during the verification process. Could it have anything to do with certificates in my keychain? If so, I could install some of them in the VM.
