A single badge should have the option to show the count of more than one folder.

    • State changed from “new” to “resolved”
    • Assigned user set to “benny”

This would make the interface more complicated than it needs to be. You can create a smart mailbox showing the mailboxes you want to include in the count. Then use a count of this smart mailbox as a badge. This would also allow you to provide a name for the set of mailboxes (which is used in the menu of menu bar counters).

Let me know if you still think it should work differently.

    This would not a without-fail-feature, but a nice-to-have one. :-)

There was a Badge plugin for Apple Mail: Mail Badge. This plugin also fixes the badge size thing.

Maybe, this could be a inspiration for an interface for you?
