A single badge should have the option to show the count of more than one folder.

    This would make the interface more complicated than it needs to be. You can create a smart mailbox showing the mailboxes you want to include in the count. Then use a count of this smart mailbox as a badge. This would also allow you to provide a name for the set of mailboxes (which is used in the menu of menu bar counters).

    Let me know if you still think it should work differently.

    This would not a without-fail-feature, but a nice-to-have one. :-)

    There was a Badge plugin for Apple Mail: Mail Badge. This plugin also fixes the badge size thing.
