Importing mbox and .eml files
Reported by Jamie | December 14th, 2013 @ 11:35 AM
Hi.
I am trying to move my mail from Entourage 2008 to MailMate.
I have been using my account as POP3, and now wish to use it as IMAP. So I have a tonne of email that's not on a server. Dragging a mailbox out of Entourage creates an mbox format. Dragging messages onto the desktop from Entourage creates .eml files.
I have tried importing the mbox into MailMate. No luck - it
simply says "Imported 0 messages".
I have then tried importing individual .eml files. They load - but
each message says (No sender) (No subject) (Not available)
I then tried importing the mbox into Apple Mail - hey presto. The all appeared fine. So it doesn't seem to be a problem with the mbox file. But I don't want them in Apple Mail...
Any suggestions?
Cheers.

As a workaround you could use Apple Mail (or Entourage) to upload the messages to the IMAP server and then let MailMate fetch them from there (note that MailMate is IMAP only -- including no support for local messages).
I would appreciate if you could send me a small .mbox example and a .eml file which fails to import. Then I can look into what goes wrong (unfortunately .mbox is not a standard format and many variations exist, but I'm surprised that the .eml file failed as well).

Thanks for the response. I've emailed a zip with the mbox and eml files to mm-info@freron.com

Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane to fetch a test version of MailMate (r3915). Based on your files I have fixed the parsing of imported files to handle the use of carriage return (
\r
) for newlines. Previously only\r\n
(Windows) and\n
(Unix/OS X) were handled correctly.
