Every post in a separate place?

Reported by David Crippen | October 8th, 2013 @ 06:14 PM

I get a post and I reply, when my reply comes in, it's not listed separately but listed invisibly under the heading of the first post with an arrow beside it. I must hit the arrow to show the reply.

I have set the viewer in Prefs to get all posts on a separate window. Is there any way to get rid of hidden replies and show everything separately?

Thanks in advance.

    • State changed from “new” to “resolved”

If I understand you correctly then you want to disable “View ▸ Organize by Thread” (in the menu).

The setting in the preferences is about what happens when double clicking a message (open a window or search for related messages).

Sure, I want to do whatever it takes to get each post in it's own window. When I go to "view, organize by thread", the "organize by thread" portion is greyed out.

Questions like yours help me see what is less obvious than I thought.

Logically, this issue should be somewhere in preferences? That's where I kept looking for it. Technically is it not a "preference"?

There could be a global default (and some day there should be), but it's currently a mailbox-level setting. That is, you can have different settings for different mailboxes. Actually, if you have a mailbox with your preferred settings (threading and maybe mailbox columns) then you should set it as your default using “Use as Default Columns” when right-clicking the header line in the messages outline.

But I agree, these settings should be more obvious — including how to set them for mailboxes. This is true for many other settings as well which could be applied on a mailbox level.
