collapseThread: no longer working with 3672 update

Reported by Steve Mayer | September 10th, 2013 @ 06:21 PM

Benny,

With the update today (3672), it appears that the keybinding for 'collapseThread:' no longer works. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

    Further info on this. Not sure if it's an existing issue or not. I seem to get inconsistent results for this behavior.

    Using the following in my custom plist seems to work every time:
    "\UF702" = "collapseThread:";

    Using the following, I get inconsistent results depending on either the length of the thread or the existence of sub-threads within the thread (haven't figured out which it is yet):

    "s" = { "l" = "collapseThread:"; };

    The key(s) used of the bindings should not play a role with respect to how it works. Are you sure the problem isn't that you have multiple key bindings using the same key?

    Let me know if you see some pattern in the behavior.

    Okay, I think I've found the cause. On the threads that weren't collapsing properly with collapseThread: it appears to happen when the first message in the thread isn't actually shown. Let me try to explain.

    In my combined Inbox, I have a thread. If I highlight the first message I can expand the thread all the way out. Keeping the highlight on that first message and trying to collapseThread:, the highlight just disappeared (no beep at all).

    What I discovered is that by choosing showThread: or rootOfThread:, the actual first email in the thread is in my Sent Messages folder. Not in the inbox with the other parts of the thread. collapseThread: did work on the results of showThread: or rootOfThread:

    This seems to happen when the thread is initiated by me (since the first email goes into the Sent Messages). Replies from me on the thread stay grouped in the Inbox as I have MMMoveSentRepliesToMailboxofRepliedMessage =1 set in the preferences.

    Does that clear things up?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Yes, that makes sense. Thanks. I'll look into it.
