No option to disable offline sync
Reported by larstobi | April 16th, 2013 @ 08:13 AM
I just installed MailMate, and imported an account from Thunderbird. At first startup MailMate started to download ALL my messages in all my folders. This is not what I want, and I couldn't find an option to not sync everything anywhere.
I would expect to be able to use an IMAP account without synchronizing all email, but instead downloading messages on demand.

Sorry, MailMate is currently a fully offline email client for IMAP. The only way to limit what is downloaded is to unsubscribe mailboxes (or use a very experimental primitive hidden preference to make MailMate ignore old messages).
I might implement more flexibility with respect to the offline behavior, but it is unlikely to ever be close to a “classic” online IMAP client. For example, it is not very likely that I'll support IMAP SEARCH.
I can guess this is not what you expected, but this is how MailMate is designed. (If you have bought a license key then you can, of course, get a refund.)
In any case, thanks for trying out MailMate.

Thanks for replying. My email account uses 15 GB, so using a fully offline client is not for me. I didn't realize MailMate was offline only. Thanks anyway!

Very understandable. Just to emphasize: It is possible to synchronize a subset of your mailboxes (using “Edit Subscriptions...”) in case there is a subset which is sufficient for daily use. The rest can then be searched using webmail or an online IMAP client. Then the offline behavior might even be a good thing.
