Mailbox Icon-Color same as Font-Color

Reported by Stefan Seiz | March 13th, 2025 @ 10:43 AM

Hi,

I would like to suggest a new Setting for the "Mailbox > Color" Menu: Use Font Color

This would make the icon use the same color as the font-color of the label to the right of the icon, and would thus also automatically switch, when the OS switches to or from Dark-Mode.

Setting a manual icon color which fits in light and dark mode is really hard and a more complex setting which takes dark mode into account might make things much too complex.
Thus, making the icon color automatically be the same color as the font of the text to its right, might be a pragmatic and not too complicated solution.

Thanks for considering!
Stefan

If I understand correctly, you would just like a global setting which disables coloring of icons in the mailbox list? I might be willing to add that, but I haven't really gotten any other requests. I'm also not sure if that should completely disable mailbox coloring as a feature.

Some users have asked me for the opposite feature. Making the mailbox text the same color as the icon :)

Let me explain (I would have loved to attach a screenshot, but couldn't because you're over Quota):

In the default, the icons are blue and the text is almost back. For my taste that doesn't look good and I personally have no need to color the folder-icons.

I can currently change the icon-color manually to be the same as the text-color, but that has two drawbacks:

    • Potentially doesn't look good in both, light and dark mode, which is a problem when the system switches modes based on the time of day

    • Needs to be redone for every folder which is newly added.

Thus my suggestion is, to add a new Option to the Menu "Mailbox > Color" named "Use Textcolor" or such.
This shouldn't disable any existing functionality and would just be an additional way to set the icon-color to be the same as the text-color (bonus if this could somehow apply to newly created folders too).

    Does this make it clearer?
