Server error after spam is blocking all incoming messages

Reported by AM Gill | September 20th, 2023 @ 03:39 PM

Got a spam message, deleted it.
Got a calendar invite, wouldn't open. Logged into web mail and deleted it.

Since then:
"Mailmate encountered the following error: "Failed to fetch data for 1 messages." Mailbox: "INBOX"
This indicates a server bug. You can tell MailMate to always ignore messages involved in this type of error (for this account) or you can temporarily ignore the messages with the following UIDs: ..."

The number of UIDs is now up to seven. I can't ignore these messages because I have to act on them.

When I log into web mail the messages are still coming in o.k. I have tried restoring all deleted messages, but the first spam message doesn't reappear.

What to do?

Just had one message come through without the "server error" message appearing. About 10-12 messages remain missing.
Sure it was to do with that spam email. Will keep monitoring.

Server Error problem - next steps?
    So far:
    - Shutdown and restarted the computer a couple of times, - deleted and reinstalled the problem mail account in MailMate (now have no messages in the inbox at all, should be c.50) - installed and ren the Onyx app, to clean out rubbish, this included rebuilding the mail index (although I think that is for Mac Mail) - deleted a software update that was installed yesterday (unrelated to mail)

All mail accounts on phone and webmail and in Mac Mail are all working fine. But this one mail account in MailMate seems dead in the water.

? Should I delete and reinstall MailMate?

RESOLVED - not sure how. Something in this list made it work again:
    - deleted all emails, then all email accounts - deleted MailMate - deleted spam protection - reviewed and reset computer security settings - rebooted computer - reset modem/router - rebooted computer - reinstalled MailMate - got new account set up info from mail hosting co

At one point the problame also transferred itself to Apple Mail, so I suspect it may have been the router.
