'Correct Spelling Automatically' not working

I am bad at typing, so would like to enable 'Correct Spelling
Automatically'. I find the option under
Edit > Spelling and Grammar
However, enabling it has no effect. I've tried restarting mailmate,
disabling and re-enabling etc.
