external editors won't launch from bundles
Reported by Patrick Ball | June 8th, 2022 @ 05:31 PM
I've been a very happy MailMate user since 2012-ish. At some
point in the last few months, my external editors stopped working.
I have used macvim.mmbundle
and
vimr.mmbundle
to edit, but neither works for me
now.
I've checked the paths, and both mvim
and
vimr
launch from the command line. I added symlinks to
both executables in $HOME/bin
to be doubly sure (the
bundle Support/bin/edit
scripts both put
$HOME/bin
at the front of the path before
execution).
Both commands appear in MailMate's Commands menu, but neither launches the editor either via the menu+mouse nor with the indicated hotkey.
What should I check next? thx -- PB.

Progress! MacVim does launch when I tab into the composer window. So that's progress, and I think that's sufficient. I don't need S-cmd-o to work if tab opens my editor. RTFM! leaving (the page link here)[https://manual.mailmate-app.com/hidden_preferences]: the magical command is
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmBundleCommandLaunchedOnTab "5A2D62AF-4725-492B-BFC6-DAB411D1AA86"

Since the tab-key works then the bundle command should also work (when using the menu). Maybe it's related to where the focus is. In any case, also try the latest test release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

Sorry to take so long to come back to this: tabbing into the message box works now, and the bundle is working. Thanks! I continue to love MailMate :) happy to close this ticket.
