emate on M1 Mac

Reported by Des Dougan | April 18th, 2022 @ 03:35 AM

I've just got a new M1 MacBook Pro and after linking emate to /usr/local/bin (where I had it on my previous system), I get:

zsh: /usr/local/bin/emate: bad interpreter: /usr/bin/python: no such file or directory

/usr/bin has a python3 executable. Will creating a symlink to /usr/bin/python resolve this, or does emate need an older Python version?

No, python3 should work. In the latest test releases I've replaced emate with a compiled version not needing python. (This should also make it easier to add feature to emate in the future.)

Thanks, Benny. I updated to the newest release and it is working fine again.

Off topic, did you receive an email about me updating the ticket? (I've noticed that the ticket creator is removed as “watching” a ticket when it has been marked as spam (and then revived by me) and I'm afraid this means no notification sent when I reply.)

No, no email. I have an RSS feed on NetNewsWire, which is where I saw your update.

On Monterey 12.3.1, the python error when invoking emate ("/usr/bin/python: no such file or directory") still occurs in the latest beta release, version 1.14 (5852). Is there a newer release that isn't dependent on finding python installed?

@Zeb: Yes. Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane to get the latest test release. Sorry about the inconvenience of this issue.

No problem & thanks for the quick response. That solved it.
