Cannot "Add to Address Book..."

Reported by Tai-Chung Huang | October 26th, 2012 @ 07:30 PM

Hi,

I encounter a problem. Until today, I can right click the address in the mail and "Add to Address Book...". Because I was troubleshooting for the synchronization issue between my macbook pro and iphone 5, I believe the setting in the "~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook" was changed. This leads to my repeated failure of "Add to Address Book..." whereas "Show in Address Book" is still normally functioning.

How can I fix this problem?

Thank you very much,

Tai

It is not a known problem. Do you see the same behavior if trying to add an address in Apple Mail?

    Hi Benny,

I don't see the same behavior when I use Apple Mail, meaning that I still can "Add to Address Book..." and "Show in Address Book..." in Apple Mail.

May you have peace and safety facing Hurricane Sandy,

    Tai

Thanks for checking Apple Mail. I'll probably have to create a debug version of MailMate to analyze the problem in more detail. I'll let you know when it's available.

(I'm on the other side of the Atlantic, but thanks for thinking about my safety :-) ).

    Enable debug output as follows:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDebugAddressBook -bool YES

Then fetch the latest beta (see Software Update preferences pane) and try adding to the address book. Finally look in Console.app for MailMate related output. Thanks in advance!

After a report (by email) from another user the debugging revealed that the problem is the restricted access to Contacts on Mountain Lion. You have probably been asked to allow MailMate to access Contacts and then rejected it. This choice is remembered by the system, but you can change/reset it in the Privacy tab of the Security preferences pane.

I have added to the code that the user is warned when this happens (and offers to open the preferences pane).
