Preview pane doesn't expand after downloading images, leading to the view being cut off

Reported by Sanchit | November 22nd, 2021 @ 01:38 AM

Whenever an email has images, MailMate shows one or multiple options to download the images (Download/Download all) depending on strict blocking. When these images are downloaded, the email's display height & width increases but the preview pane view doesn't seem to resize to accomodate the larger email, leading to the bottom of the email being cut off. This is confirmed by the size of the scrollbar, which doesn't change after downloading the images. The full email is displayed after it's open in a separate window (double click).

After resetting the email, when the email appears again, now it's visible in the preview pane with all the images & correct size, seems the downloads are being cached. But the Download buttons are again visible with the original count of images to download, even though the images are already there. This last part is a small (separate) bug.

    • State changed from “new” to “fixcommitted”

First part: Try the latest test release and let me know if this is still an issue (I already fixed some things related to this). Hold down the option key when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane. Let me know if it still doesn't work.

Last part: It's not a bug, but more like a lack of information on what's going on. When an external resource is blocked then MailMate will still look in its cache to see if the resource has been recently fetched and then reuse that (even if fetched for a different message). In theory, this could be an older variant of the resource and therefore it's still possible to explicitly allow downloading. It's possible to enable that MailMate shows everything (external or not), but this is probably too much information by default. I'm still considering how to best implement this.

It works after downloading the update with Option+Check Now, thanks! Meanwhile I had an email where the view was not adjusting even in a separate window, this case was odd since I had already downloaded the images in the preview pane but the separate window didn't show the images and the email got cut at the bottom when I downloaded the images in the separate window as well, seems that the image is not being saved somehow (tried multiple times). Both the preview & separate window view are showing the full email with the new update, but the view & scrollbar adjust a small (but noticeable) time after the image is shown.

By "everything", do you mean showing the status of all images in email (shown via cache, download, download all) in the yellow/red bar ? Yes that will clarify, but it is more information.

Yes, the bar will just be grey in this case. You can see for yourself using this option:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmShowSuccessfullyFetchedResources -bool YES

    Disable it like this:

    defaults delete com.freron.MailMate MmShowSuccessfullyFetchedResources
