Column settings are sometimes not preserved, even after selecting “Use as Default Columns”

Reported by Christian Bailey | September 1st, 2021 @ 11:12 PM

Latest Test Build: 5820

Steps to recreate:

  1. Select a particular inbox or all inboxes
  2. Add “Thread size” column
  3. Resize columns
  4. Select “Use as Default Columns”

After using MailMate for some time, and reselecting the same inbox, the column sizing is lost and “thread size” column is no longer displayed

Hi Benny, I first reported this same issue over 3 years ago, and it continues to frustrate me. At the time, you suggested this:

I hope so (no promises), but until then you can hopefully get back on track by resetting the mailbox related states completely:

     defaults delete com.freron.MailMate MmMailboxRelatedStates

(Do this while MailMate is not open.)

Is this still good advice for a workaround? Even so, the fix is at best temporary...

@Eric: With regard to spam, somehow lighthouseapp decided to mark everything (also 10 year old tickets) as spam. I'm not sure what to do about it without a lot of manual work :(

Yes, the primitive fix described still works. Right now, I'm focused on making MailMate stable for a new public release, but it won't include a fix for this issue. Sorry, it really is high on my list, but the related code is a can of worms I don't really want to touch before I'm sure I can take the time needed to do it properly.

(It's not just a bug, it's also a design flaw.)
