Extended period of unresponsiveness when launching, before window appears

I have had this problem for many months, so I thought I'd finally post about it.

Quite often, when I launch or relaunch MM, it appears to launch normally (single bounce in Dock) but then the main window fails to appear. I check the Dock menu and it says the app is not responding. I then wait and wait and… eventually (after 20-30 seconds) the window appears and everything is OK after that.

Is that really normal? I don't see why MM needs such an extended period of unresponsiveness when launching. It's a bit… annoying, especially when you are in a hurry to deal with an email.

I should specify that it happens MOST of the time, but not always. I have had situations where I launched MM and the window opened almost immediately. However, these situations are most definitely in the minority.

macOS 10.15.7
MM Version 1.14 (5791) (but has been going on for months, through many builds).

    Addendum: I just quit and relaunch to try and reproduce the problem once more and… the window opened right away this time. I have no idea why it doesn't behave like this every time. (There's no significant CPU activity while it's frozen.)

    While it's hanging then try making a sample using “Activity Monitor” or this Terminal command:

    sample MailMate 10 > ~/Desktop/mailmate_sample.txt

    You can send it using “Help > Send Feedback”.
