I created a smart mailbox called "Today" and included my Inbox in it and added some conditions.

I then tried to check "Include messages in any sub mailboxes of this mailbox" to include everything that is in sub mailboxes of the inbox (server-side filtering puts incoming messages there). This does not include any of those messages.

Only when I add each of the submailboxes to the list, their messages are being shown (which is to say that the rule would not prohibit their contents from being shown).

I also noticed I had issues checking the box in the first place and was not always successful in doing so, with the checkmark disappearing occasionally.
