Mailmate opens links in non-browser window with Brave
Reported by Jim Arnold | February 10th, 2021 @ 02:53 PM
This started with OS version 10 and has continued with Big Sur.
Links in Mailmate open in a window that is not a browser window when the is set to use Brave as the main browser. When the OS is switched to use another browser (like Safari or Opera or Firefox) the links clicked from MM open in the browser selected. When using Brave the window that is used appears to be a finder window, as that is the app that is running with the window. There is no way to close or quit this window. Force quitting and restarting the finder does not kill the window.
A computer restart will often fix it so Brave will again be used, but eventually Brave is ignore.

Do you mean 10.15 and Big Sur (11.x)?
What about links in other applications? Do they correctly open in Brave?
MailMate uses a general system call to open a link and it doesn't know anything about the browser used.
Maybe try the latest test release of MailMate to see if that behaves differently.

Hi Benny,
I think you are correct, it's a Brave bug. I made a quick screencast to show this. https://youtu.be/ge4ypLRu-xA
I'm going to abandon Brave and try Chromium. I started down this path by ditching Google Chrome after reading https://chromeisbad.com
