Markdown escapes in email addresses and URLs
Reported by Mika Raunio | January 29th, 2021 @ 10:49 PM
Hello,
MailMate (5673) behaves strangely when composing messages with Markdown backslash-escaped characters inside email addresses and URLs.
In email addresses, \_
correctly renders to
_
in the HTML output, but only the part following the
underscore is hyperlinked as a mailto: link.
In URLs, the whole address is hyperlinked in HTML, but the backslash is not removed. In the composer's plain-text pane, only the part up to the backslash is hyperlinked.

Guess there's no obvious answer to the question of whether one should even escape underscore and friends in these cases - if you don't, you have invalid Markdown, yet if you do, the plain text links are incorrect. You could however posit that if the escapes are included, the rendered HTML should be correct.
