Replying to an e-mail results in it the reply shown as quoted text in Fastmail and Gmail

When I reply to a sender, the reply will show up as if it's nested in a quote when seeing it in Fastmail or Gmail. But if i reply to my own reply to add data, it does not show up as a quoted text when viewed in these same clients.
What could be causing this?

Vi har ei snelle liggende ja som er i bruk i boda, men trodde den
tilhørte oss (vi har fått en del byggesaker fra familien i prosessen),
jeg kan sende deg bilde når jeg er hjemme igjen rundt 16:30 om du
ønsker. Ellers er det åpent i boda om dere vil svinge innom og se på
det selv.

I don't see anything wrong with these emails. The second one does not have an HTML alternative, but the plain text part does quote the previous messages, that is, it should show up as quoted in receiving email unless they display the
>lines in a different way.You can write me using “Help ▸ Send Feedback” if you think I need screenshots to properly understand the issue.
(It's possible to force HTML to be generated for all emails, but it seems kind of wasteful when it's not needed.)
Off topic, you are on a test release and I think you should update to the latest test release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.

Ok, the image you sent were helpful. The problem seems to be that the HTML generated by MailMate is interpreted by some email clients to be quoted. There's no quoting in the sense of an HTML
<blockquote>, but I guess some other email clients are not that specific and the heuristic used to detect quoted segments is therefore too “greedy”.In other words, MailMate isn't really doing anything wrong (on the contrary, the HTML generated is fairly simple). I cannot really work around the problem without testing in these other email clients -- and then it might break something elsewhere. I have it on my todo to use a service like Litmus to more thoroughly test the HTML generated by HTML, because I'm aware that all that matters to users is that it works -- and not who to blame when it doesn't :-)
I'll mark this ticket as something to consider when I have time to do such a test.
