When the error window is shown then hold down ⇧ while clicking “Retry”. This is going to create a logfile on your desktop of the communication with the server. Send that to me or attach it to this ticket.

Also try enabling/disabling the “Require SSL” checkmark in the IMAP settings window.

(I know I have other users with Yahoo accounts and I believe it works for them -- even though Yahoos IMAP implementation is one of the worst I've seen.)

The log looks fine. MailMate is told by the server that it cannot login using plain text even after enabling SSL (encrypted communication).

This seems to be a known problem and maybe an intermittent problem.

The only way I can imagine it would work is if the server does not really mean it, i.e., that login really isn't disabled. Do you know how to use the Terminal? I could provide instructions to connect to the server manually to test this theory (alternatively I can see if I can get a Yahoo test account -- my old one seems to have been closed down).

Oh, I found another solution. I tried connecting to port 993 instead. Apparently that one does not report LOGINDISABLED. Could you try configuring MailMate to explicitly use port 993?

I just starting using MailMate and I have the same problem.

How do you configure my IMAP account to use port 993 ?

    Thanks guys.

I found it and it appears to work just fine.

Great, just in case someone has the same question: “Double-click the account under SOURCES in the mailbox outline. Look for the port setting for the IMAP server and set it to 993.”

Maybe I should hardcode MailMate to use port 993 for Yahoo, but it seems kind of silly and maybe they'll fix the problem. In any case, Yahoo has one of the worst IMAP implementations I have encountered. You may want to consider an alternative :-)
