Threading doesn't seem to honor References: header
Reported by Jesse Vincent | September 29th, 2020 @ 09:50 PM
Trying out MailMate for the first time, I'm seeing a lot of threads that other mail clients are able to tie together, which MailMate just...doesn't.
Here are excerpts from the headers of two messages which aren't being threaded together, although other messages in the same thread are.
(I'm well aware that there's a misconfig in our RT instance and that example.com shouldn't be showing up there. However, this -should- be working even if you're discarding anything matching @example.com
I'd be more than happy to provide additional information if it'd be useful to help track this down.

Having dug deeper into the issue tracker, it appears that the issue is that MailMate currently only honors 'strict' threading and that removing an intermediate message from a given mailbox will break a thread in two and that right now MailMate is operating as designed.
MailMate clearly knows that these other messages exist or existed, as it does the right thing when showing the thread arc.
I'd be absolutely ok with a greyed out placeholder for missing messages showing up in the thread view.
While I know that one individual customer paying $50 isn't the thing that will (or should) move the needle on any feature or bug, this is the showstopper that's stopping me from buying a license.
If there's any way I can be useful to you in terms of sorting this issue out, please just say the word. If this report is really just a duplicate of a known issue, please feel free to just close, merge, or delete it.
Thanks!

- State changed from new to duplicate
@Jesse: Thanks for the feedback. The “solution” is that MailMate should support a flat threading mode (grouping). This is also relevant for sibling messages where the parent is missing (or not even exists in some weird cases). Some of this is implemented, but it's not close to being finished and it's one of those embarrassingly long standing issues. When/if it's resolved then I'll change the state of this ticket and you should be notified.
Thanks for trying out MailMate!
