Address field does not enlarge for addresses in second/third row

I have run into a seemingly random problem: occasionally, the to-address field will not expand to show all addresses the draft email is addressed to. It gets stuck in a one-row view/setting, and the only way to see more addresses is to widen the window and/or click into the address field, and scroll down (even then only one line is visible).
Normal and expected behaviour: when entering recipient's mail addresses, the field expands as soon as an address is added that breaks into the second row. Faulty and observed behaviour: the address that breaks into the second row disappears from view, leaving the author none the wiser whether it was added or not.

Note on seemingly random: it has happened several times, whereas most of the time it's fine and behaves as designed. I have not been able to identify what causes the behaviour and cannot reproduce it – though it happens (to me seemingly randomly) frequently.
