Composer duplicating portions of the messages to which I'm replying
Reported by Eric Sharakan | June 26th, 2020 @ 07:32 PM
Hi Benny, I'm running r5695, and it seems that whenever I reply to a message which has both text & html parts, if I type in the middle of the html portion (I have disabled the "Warn before discarding HTML when editing" checkbox), a portion of the message gets duplicated at the end of the reply. This isn't apparent in the window in which I'm typing, but it is apparent in the preview pane. And if I save the draft and re-open it, the duplicated portions persist (so it's not just an issue drawing to the screen). In addition, the text I added to my reply only shows up in the duplicated portion, not where I had originally been typing it.
I've been able to reproduce this behavior on multiple messages. They're usually long-running threads, with somewhat deeply quoted replies to replies, etc. I've also noticed that a portion of the message in the composer window in which I'm typing has a slight grey background. It's the portion immediately after the grey section that gets duplicated.

Hi Benny, any update on this? The issue persists in r5696, and it's really becoming a problem for me.
Thanks.

Also, I don't need to break the html in the middle to reproduce this. I'm at the point now where almost all my email replies are suffering from this, and I can't find any suitable workaround. Please help!!

I tried enabling the old message view and I tried various ways of replying to an HTML email (a Lighthouse ticket), but I was unable to make it duplicate as you describe.
Do you have an example email you can send me by email? Then I'll try to reproduce it. Also let me know if you use an HTML signature and maybe include a screenshot of your Composer preferences pane.
(The new message view is getting close to being usable and I might also want you to see if you have the same problem using that.)
Thanks for your patience!

Great, thanks. Let me know if you need a copy of an email that reproduces this for me when I try to reply (and if so, how to get it to you privately).
In the meantime, I've downgraded to 1.31.1 (5671) to avoid the issue for now.
Thanks.
