Technically, some emoji are more complex than others. Something probably goes wrong when parsing the tags preferences on startup. I'll look into it.

The problem was a bug when saving the tag names and it also affected other parts of MailMate. Thanks for the report.

The fix is not in the public release yet. You need to get the test release for this to work: Hold down the option key when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.
(But the test release might have other issues since I'm currently in the middle of major changes.)

Ha, hadn't realised this. Changed machines, probably had a test release on old machine.
