First try the latest test release to see if that happens to work. Here is a direct link: https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/MailMate_r5680.tbz

As in all mailboxes spin or just this particular one?
Note that you can take individual mailboxes offline in the Mailbox list (under Sources). You could try that for most of them (first hold down the option key when clicking on a triangle to expand the whole tree, then use “Mailbox > Take Offline” to take them offline). You can then take a single mailbox online (e.g., the INBOX) to see if it synchronizes. Continue until you find a mailbox which does not synchronize and then we'll debug that.
Can you send emails now?

No I can't do anthing anymore. The activity monitor shows Mailmate as 'Not responding'. Only in the very beginning I'm able to look et at the 'About' in Mailmate to check the version I had, but after a short while it goes into not responding mode and can't do anything anymore

Ok, but the hang happens after the UIDVALIDITY-window has been shown? Does it hang no matter which button you click?
You can take the machine offline to gain more control over MailMate, because this will prevent it from trying to synchronize the accounts. In this state you can take one or more mailboxes (or even accounts if you have more than one) offline before taking the machine online again. The goal is to see if the issue is triggered by a particular mailbox in a particular account (and to allow you to use MailMate if possible).
