IMAP prefix not being detected and don't know how to specify
Reported by Fleur | October 31st, 2019 @ 02:24 PM
Hello. I've just run into an issue I believe is this. I keep getting the "resynchronize" dialog (screen shot attached) and MailMate keeps thinking I've got a new email w/ subject "/home/fleur/.msgid.cache" and it gets stuck in a loop. MailMate is also interpreting my home directory as the top-level IMAP directory so all my directories, including dot directories, etc are showing up as folders. I've tried unsubscribing from everything, but MailMate is still caught in the loop.
Info that might be useful:
- same IMAP setup works as expected in MacMail - private postfix
server (admin'ed by a friend) - non-standard IMAP port - set up in
the late 2000s (box is actively administered, but no idea if best
practices have changed?) - long ago, i did need to configure a
prefix in MacMail or i saw the same symptoms, less long ago, i had
to take it out (sorry i can't be more specific; long ago likely
means ~2008-9)
If it's a misconfiguration on the server side, please let me know. The admin would be more than happy to correct the problem.
I'm eager to get this resolved. I'm not sure why I hadn't heard of MailMate before, but it looks very much like I will love it when this gets resolved. Thanks much.

Well, I decided to try again because I really wanted MailMate to work, plus several updates since I last checked, plus glutton for punishment. In any case, it worked this time, so thank you.

My apologies for not answering your original ticket. Thanks for trying again!
To answer your question: It could potentially be a serious security issue with the server if it's possible to access non-IMAP folders/files on the server just by using a different (or no) namespace. There's a few notes on the subject here.
