  No, that should definitely not be necessary. An upgrade shouldn't touch the file with smart mailboxes at all.

  The only thing that can reset it is if MailMate fails to parse it and has to replace it with the default. In that case, a copy will be saved here:

  /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist.invalid
  

  If that file exists then try sending it to me and I'll see if I can find an issue that might have triggered it to fail with r5635. (But nothing changed with respect to loading/parsing it which makes me think that this is not the problem.)

  If you have a backup then you could look for an older version of this file:

  /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist
  

  If you try to change the file then make sure MailMate is not running (since otherwise MailMate will overwrite it again).

  Thank you, Benny. Following your advice, I'm glad to report that my smart mailboxes were actually not deleted upon upgrading mailmate so I was mistaken to report this as an issue, my apologies.

  I found this out by:

  Making a copy of the current Mailboxes.plist and, since all smart
  mailboxes were still present in the file, investigated and found them upon expanding the "All Messages" folder....my mistake!

  Problem solved, ticket can be closed...
