Gmail Inbox Mailbox + Archive Rule

Reported by Jon | February 15th, 2019 @ 09:28 PM

Sorry for all the tickets here. I wish there were a user's forum, it just seems less intrusive than the mailing list.

After reading the Account Setup page I was left unsure whether the default Gmail INBOX needed to be subscribed or not. This mailbox is not under the normal [Gmail] path (Screenshot attached). I tried unsubscribing it to see what would happen, and it would seem that it IS needed. My impression was that All Mail would have contained all the Inbox items anyway. This is fine though.

My real problem is with a rule..
Next I created a rule that would automatically archive some messages when they come in. I set the rule up on the combined "Inbox". The rule is set up to mark the message as Seen and to Archive it using the combined Archive as the selected mailbox.

After running the rule the message is marked as seen, and it looks like it's moved to All Mail (which is set up as the Archive for that account), but it is also still in the inbox.

Copying the UUID for each message shows that they have the same value (so the message wasn't copied).

If I select the message in my inbox and archive it using Message> Move to Archive, it disappears from the inbox and only one copy of it shows up in All Mail.

User forum: I'm considering upgrading to MailMan 3 for the mailing list. This would allow me to also provide a forum interface for the list.

I'm not quite sure what's going on here, but could you try the latest test release (I fixed a related bug): Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane. Let me know if you then still have this problem.

And yes, it is not recommended to unsubscribe the INBOX, especially not for Gmail which is very tricky to handle in an IMAP email client.

@benny: That seems to have resolved the issue, thanks!

I had also commented here, but the issue was closed so I'm not sure if you saw it:
