MailMate not responding

This seems related to other current tickets re problems creating new message, but appears to hit more functions.
MailMate opens, updates sources, but locks up when I try to do anything else (open message, create new message, edit account settings). Have to force quit.
Tried latest version (with alt while checking updates), recovered a couple of earlier versions from Time Machine, now on r5568. Same result with all of them.

And if I check for updates (standard) it installs a version that doesn't even load - just bounces in the dock.

Apologies for the random comments, but I'm trying random stuff: "install and relaunch" gives the bouncing icon described above. Just installing, then closing and reopening gives the other symptoms.

Tried the force rebuild approach: got rid of (renamed) the MailMate folder in Library\Application Support and tried again. It rebuilt the source list and now seems to be working normally. I lost my custom folders but they were overdue for a cleanup in any case, so no big deal.
Consider this one closed, although I'll be happy to provide more info if it's useful.
