email disappears when in thread view

Reported by Martin | January 14th, 2012 @ 08:23 AM

My bank sends me an email every time there is activity on my bank account. The messages are all very similar (they follow a template) and all have the same subject: "Zprava o realizaci transakce" (translation: message of transaction confirmation").

When I have either the Inbox or All Messages in "Organize by Thread View", this message does not show up, altough the menubar widget recognizes that the there is a new email. I suspected that it might be because the subject of the mail is the same in every mail, but the message seems to disappear completely - I can't even search for it.

This causes frequent crashes. For example:

  • I have the Inbox in Thread view.
  • Menubar widget informs me that there is a new mail, I click to check it
  • MailMate.app is brought to the foreground, but unable to locate the message crashes

I'm attaching a visual explanation of the behavior.

Could you provide the headers of one of these messages, in particular whatever exists of the following:

    Message-ID
    In-Reply-To
    References

You can also send the entire email by private email if it does not contain sensitive information (use the “Help ▸ Send Feedback” menu item in MailMate and then drag the message to the composer).

    Thanks in advance!

I've sent over an example of an original. Thanks for the quick feedback!

Thanks for the email. It was what I expected:

    Message-Id: <87012540.11-1-2012-9-13-49.RTMail@ebanka.cz>
    In-Reply-To: <87012540.11-1-2012-9-13-49.RTMail@ebanka.cz>

The above is nonsense since it means that the message is a reply to itself. I recently made MailMate more robust with respect to self-referencing messages (and cyclic references, but they are probably quite rare). I'll write you privately with instructions for fetching a test build to see if this solves your problem.
