Body text search broken in r 6123
Reported by Bill Cole | October 17th, 2018 @ 02:00 PM
Search on strings which exist in a message do not find some messages.
Attached 1-message mbox contains a sanitized example message.
Searche strings which exist in the unquoted body text of the message with which (using "Quoted Text" or "Unquoted Text" or "Common Headers or Text") MM will not find this message:

UPDATE: Literally NOTHING I search for in quoted or unquoted body finds that message.
A smart mailbox searching All Messages for messages where Quoted Text and Unquoted Text both do not exist finds that message and many others, largely robotically-generated messages.

- State changed from new to reproduced
- Tag cleared.
I'm afraid this is related to a (bad) quick-fix solution to some old performance problems with large email log files. I don't think it ever worked correctly. At least there's now a ticket to track any improvements to this part of MailMate (searching body text has never worked very well internally).

I just discovered that in addition to those big log-like emails, a text/plain message containing a uuencoded file (and no other text) is not found if the word 'begin' or the name of the encoded file (which is in the uucode 'begin' line) is searched. MM also ( PROPERLY ) does not recognize the uuencoded file as an attachment so that's not why it is not finding the plain text of the message.
Incidentally, I discovered this possibly-related search problem by creating a Smart Mailbox containing messages where both Quoted Text and Unquoted Text do not exist, which found many actual no-body and attachment-only messages, all of the cron messages like the attached sample, and one message with a uuencoded file as plain text as its only content. That may help in determining the precise nature of the bug.
(Tangentially: Body Size would be a useful pseudo-header, and Size should be searchable as quantitative value, i.e. greater than/less than/equals)

I'm having issues with missing emails when searching the body of text as well, but I thought I'd done something to my settings.
I can't say I've ever noticed this issue previously, so I'm surprised to hear that search never worked correctly. I consider Mailmate the gold standard not only for email, but for software in general, so in all honesty I'm blown away to hear that ANYTHING doesn't work correctly.
Is there presently a work around for this? What does the timeline for a fix look like? I'd been preparing to transition my work email to Mailmate, but I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the inability to find a single message has the potential to cost me my job.

@Mark: Sorry about the late response. I cannot promise you a quick fix, but if you follow this ticket then I promise to update it whenever something has changed in this part of MailMate.

Thanks so much Benny. I understand that a one man operation can only do so much. (In fact, still amazed that you can do what you do!)
I'm not looking for a quick fix, but hopefully something is in the pipe.
Any chance we might see a solution before the year is out?

Hi Benny ~
Hope things are going as best as can be expected for you, given the times.
It's been about a year - any update on this?
