Message list loses focus when navigating with keyboard shortcuts

After installing the latest update I started experiencing a problem with navigating unread items when using the keyboard.

Steps to reproduce:

Create an "unread" smart mailbox
Click on it
Press k or space to activate the first item
Press k or space to move to the next item

The list loses focus and I have to click on an item on the list to resume browsing.

I have Gmail keyboard shortcuts enabled but this issue is happening when using the space bar as well.

MailMate version: 1.12 (5523)
Email accounts: Gmail (G Suite aka Google in own domain aka Google Apps), Fastmail
