Threaded messages in smart folders

Reported by ergojs | September 27th, 2018 @ 10:54 AM

Hi everyone. I'm currently evaluating mailmate for work.

In Apple Mail I usually keep all mails in several inboxes and drag only relevant mails into imap folders of one (main) inbox. As soon as a mail – say in „2do“ is done, I drag the whole thread, including replies etc., into „done“. Mail makes this very easy as it groups mails together quite well.

In Mailmate I'm currently experimenting with tags „2do“ and „done“.

I would tag a mail in my inboxes with „2do“ and it appears in the right smart folder. The first problem is: mailmate doesn't group my replies or forwarded messages with the originally tagged messages. I would need to manually tag my replies etc. for that which isn't practical, because I'm only human, born to make mistakes.

The second problem which I can't figure out is, how to apply tags to all of the threaded messages.

For my workflow it would also be critical to delete the „2do“ tag as soon as I tag with „done“. Is that possible?

I think my question touches those threads: Link
Link and Link which all try to archive something similar.

I've searched quite extensively but didn't find a solution for my problem, so thanks for your replies!

Jens

[edit] I think my first problem could be dealt with conditions but I can't figure out how.

I think your request might be closest to ticket #1819 in which I describe a planned feature (which I have not implemented yet). I think such a feature would solve your problems as well.

You also mention making one tag automatically deselect another tag. It would be interesting if tags could be put into a group of mutually exclusive tags although I'm not quite sure how easy this is to make intuitive when configuring (I imagine the list of tags could include a column in which a group name could be specified).

But you can also do this part manually: Create a smart mailbox matching 2do messages. Create another mailbox based on this mailbox which includes a condition for the “done” tag. In this mailbox you can add a rule which just removes the “2do” tag. As a side-effect this mailbox is always going to be empty.

    Sorry about the late reply!

I'll update this ticket if the thread-based tags are implemented.
