Language detection (for spellcheck)
Reported by Kai von Fintel | June 28th, 2018 @ 04:37 PM
Mail.app seems to be able to tell whether I'm writing an email in English or in German and switches to the appropriate spellcheck dictionary. MailMate always thinks I'm writing in English. Is there a trick to make MailMate auto-detect what language I'm writing in?

Check your settings in “View ▸ Spelling and Grammar ▸ Show ...”. It should have an “automatic” setting. There's also a global default in the System Preferences.
(This is a system feature and not really a MailMate feature.)
Let me know if this does not help.

Thanks, Benny. This solved it. Neither the MailMate setting (which is actually "Edit ▸ Spelling and Grammar ▸ Show ...") nor the System Preference setting ("Keyboard ▸ Text ▸ Spelling:") was set to Automatic by Language, which puzzles me since Mail.app did detect when I wrote in German. Anyway, I appreciate the help.
