Search does not find content of forwarded email

Reported by Julian | January 29th, 2018 @ 07:27 PM

Hi Benny,

I stumbled about a problem when searching for emails.

I got an "fyi" email from a collegue, forwarding a clients email to me.
When I search in all messages for the clients name, email adress or any other text contained in that forwarded email I get zero search results. It seems like MailMate does not find the email although I got it today and can open it.

I also tried the search with the supported modifiers but still get 0 results.
Any idea on how to approach this?

MailMate Version 1.10 (5443)

Thanks

Julian

I have checked the code and I don't see why a forwarded email wouldn't be indexed (and I also tried a simple example). Speculating, it might be an issue with an HTML message which has a, more or less, empty plain text part. I do try to heuristically work around that, but maybe that fails.

Can you share the email with me (via private email)?

    Hi Benny,

you are right. The error happens with a complex html email which I got forwarded.
I can search „f the forwarder b part of the forwarded html email“ and find nothing because the html email does not
seem to have any plain text (at least I can’t see any in the „Show Raw Message“-mode).

    So thats probably it already.
I’ll let you know it the problem appears in other scenarios as well.

Until then you can close the ticket as „answered and no fix needed“.
If you still want to have a look into the html email to create a future fix for that I can send it to you. Just let me know.

    Thanks!

BTW: Since you seem to need a long time to answer the tickets. Are you still a one-man-show?
Is there anything you could need support with?

I’m a big fan of mail mate, recommend it a lot and would love to see this project thrive.

I'd still like to see the email, because MailMate is supposed to index the text of the HTML part when it cannot find a plain text alternative. Perhaps this fails for some reason. You can use “Help ▸ Send Feedback”.

Yes, I'm still a one-man show. It becomes a bit random which issues are dealt with first and some tickets/reports can be in limbo for years. Usually, when I'm not answering a lot of emails/tickets then it's because I'm busy working on some part of MailMate -- if that is any consolation :)

My biggest problem is financial. It appears I'm always making just about enough money to continue working on MailMate, but not enough to be relaxed about the long term future of MailMate :-)

So, thanks for recommending MailMate to other people!
