No way to dismiss the details of a smart search

Reported by Eric Sharakan | January 9th, 2018 @ 04:34 PM

If I perform a search (e.g. click the subject of a message), I get a a custom search pane where I can click a "Details" button. But once I click that button, there's no obvious way to dismiss the details while keeping the search active.

    • State changed from “new” to “bluesky”

The details are equivalent to whatever was shown before, but not any set of details can be “transformed” to a meaningful non-details search item.

The main reason to go back would be to save some visual space while continuing the search.

I assume you are looking for something like a “Show/Hide Details” button and I guess that makes sense. But a collapsed detailed search would just collapse to “Custom Search”. I'm not sure much is gained by that.

(Note that you can cancel a search using escape or the minus-button and you can remove a single search item using the context sensitive menu or by holding down ⌥ when clicking on it.)

Yeah, I was thinking of a Show/Hide type button, but I agree it's a low priority thing.

I have another question about the Show Details button. Is there a way to see what mailboxes are included in the search? So for example if I use the option key to do the search across all mailboxes, is there any way to see that in the detail view?

If you prefer, I'll open a new ticket for this.

The mailboxes included are the ones selected in the mailbox list. With an active search you can still change this set including selecting multiple mailboxes if you like. Note that “All Messages” does not include junk/deleted, but you can ⌘-select these when needed.

Oh I didn't realize that! That's actually very cool, thanks for clarifying.
