spurious output into formatted code block

Reported by Tom Scogland | November 10th, 2017 @ 10:08 PM

I'm seeing some odd spurious output into formatted code blocks lately, and occasionally a complete lack of markdown formatting regardless of settings. The latter part is harder to reproduce, but I'm hoping it will be related to the former which is relatively easy to capture on both of my work systems. It looks like a UUID, or hash possibly, is getting randomly appended or inserted into the block. The attached image shows it appearing at the end, if I remove the extra lines from the top and bottom the same string gets added to the beginning of the block.

It's causing enough trouble that I'm actually wondering if there's a way I can temporarily replace the markdown engine being used somehow. Is there a reasonable hook for that? Some years ago I replaced the sundown command, but digging that out again seems... unfortunate.

I believe I already fixed the UUID issue in the latest test release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane. (It's only a visual issue since it does not affect what is actually sent.)

I'm afraid I don't think this necessarily solves your other issue. Let me know if you still have that problem.

Thanks Benny, that did solve the UUID issue, though I'm still seeing the triple backticks if there isn't a preceding blank line inside the block (see attached). This at least is pretty easy to avoid, so that's a definite improvement.

I'll keep an eye out for the other issue, but the email that was causing me particular issues yesterday works today, so maybe we're lucky?

Hmm, I don't seem to be able to reproduce that. I only see something like that if there is no newline after the final backticks. Where is the caret when this happens, that is, what is the last character you enter?
