Your
Messagesfolder was likely symlink'ed to somewhere else due to the Spotlight custom location settings in the General preferences pane. I've seen a few times now that this symlink is broken, e.g., when restoring from a backup.I'll consider this a request for 2 features:
- Automatically detect and warn about the disappearance of
Messages. - Improve how other similar issues are handled. Restoring from a backup can have various side-effects and not all of them are handled gracefully.
