Messages always open in tabs
Reported by Martin McCallion | September 8th, 2017 @ 06:40 PM
Hi,
Since the latest update (Version 1.9.7 (5412)) messages open in tabs when I double-click on them, instead of in a new window as they always did before. I prefer the old behaviour, but can't find a setting to switch it back.
Cheers,
Martin

- State changed from new to resolved
MailMate now respects the setting in the Dock preferences pane in System Settings. The one named “Prefer tabs when opening documents [...]”. Try changing that.
Let me know if that does not help.

Thanks, that's fixed it right enough. Problem then is that there might be other applications wherein I want to have documents open in tabs, though frankly I can't think of one right now. Still, given the vast quantity of MailMate's settings, I'm surprised there isn't one to override this behaviour.
But thanks again for your help.

Yeah, I'm probably just waiting for someone to request an override. In any case, the whole window handling system in MailMate could use a re-write to be more system friendly.

It would be nice to be able to create new messages and reply if MailMate opened a new window instead of a tab even if "prefer tabs when opening documents" is set to "Always" (same behavior like in Apple's built-in Mail app). Thanks.

For some reason, MailMate 6030 keeps opening items in tabs by default. How do I disable this? I have "Prefer tabs when opening documents" set to "Never."

@Joseph: I don't see any issues here. Does it happen in both full screen mode and window mode? Does it happen for any type of window or no matter how you open it? What is your macOS release?
