Viewer preference "theme for plain text emails" does not appear to do anything

Reported by John Y | September 5th, 2017 @ 11:59 AM

The "theme for plain text emails" setting in Preferences > Viewer has four options: Standard, Simple, Classic and Apple Mail.

No matter which option I choose, plain text emails look exactly the same for each one, both in the preview under the message list and the actual message viewer.

I've tried closing the message viewer and reopening it; I've tried navigating to a different message and back again; I've even tried quitting and restarting. Nothing makes any difference.

What does this option actually do? It sounds like it should make the messages appear differently in the message viewer window (and preferably in the preview as well, since that's what I mainly use) but it doesn't seem to make any difference to either.

My system: MailMate/5412 MacPro5,1/x86_64/8/10.12.6

The attached PDF shows a sample message (and if I'd noticed Distortion Mode before I took the screenshots, I could have saved a lot of time that I spent redacting :)

The current themes do not differ a lot. You should at least quote some text and then you'll see some color differences.

Also, the “Apply to HTML emails when possible” setting is not very powerful. Therefore, make sure you are viewing a plain text message when trying this out -- or use the “Prefer plain text” option if you don't care much for HTML messages anyways.

Let me know if you still don't see any differences.

Ah, thanks — I was viewing plain text emails, but without any quoted text. I see the differences now.
