Apply rules to whole thread

Reported by Dries | August 26th, 2017 @ 06:40 AM

Hi,

I've got a couple smart folders set up and I'm applying rules to them when certain conditions are met. For example:

When a github "merged" email comes in, I will tag it as "Flagged" and "tag-x". This email will usually be part of a whole chain, so I use the threaded view to have an easy overview of everything that's going on.

The problem is that, when collapsed, I can't see the status quickly.

Is it possible to either:

  • apply the tags to the root of the thread
  • apply the tags to the "merged" email, but show it in the colums when collapsed

?

Screenshot attached,

Thank you

I have a feature on my todo list which would allow the user to tell MailMate that some tags are “thread based”, that is, MailMate should always apply/remove such a tag to the entire thread. Preferably, it should also automatically tag incoming emails which belong to an already tagged thread.

Would that solve your problem? If yes, then I'll note this as another request for this feature.

To answer the first question more directly: MailMate does have a virtual root thread id for each email. I believe this could be used to implement a custom command which could tag the root of the thread, but this wouldn't work with the general tagging interface (the text fields) and therefore I don't think it's worth exploring this approach.

Just wanted to chime in that I'd like the default behavior of all my tags to be to tag the entire message thread, including having replies inherit the outgoing message's original tag.
